Selection in IoT type systems based on multi criteria methods

Abstract:

The large-scale increase in communications and the number of devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) has allowed the development of IoT-type systems in various fields of activity. The selection of IoT devices, technologies, applications and platforms plays a critical role in solving the equipment procurement and realization of IoT systems. Selection problems in IoT, which involve the consideration of several criteria, can be solved with the help of multicriteria decision methods. This paper proposes an analysis of such selection problems in IoT-type systems and to show how they can be solved with the help of multi-criteria methods. The selection, through multi-criteria methods, involves evaluating a set of options according to several criteria, often conflicting, considered simultaneously. Based on the literature review, a set of multi-criteria methods more often used to solve selection problems in IoT were identified. For these methods, the advantages and disadvantages for their use are presented in a synthesis. The paper also contains a synthesis of the main criteria used in the multi-criteria evaluation, for selection problems in IoT.
