Abstract:

Ever since the late 1980s, the World, objectively, is being witnessing an unprecedented development and spread of hardware and software tools concurring to process, host and transmit data. Taking into consideration all decisive mutations (till yesterday nourishing only the imagination of the visionary) occurred as a result of this technological revolution not only at economic, scientific or social – but also at personal, human- level, everyone is able to acknowledge the advent of the Information Society (clear evidence in this regard, if needed, is the placement of broadband electronic communications between the main global priorities, since the second half of the 1990s). In Romania intense efforts involving human and financial resources have been being directed for more than 2 decennia to developing physical infrastructure, software equipments and standards/norms – as well as to achieving technical, operational and policy-making concordance with European Union and the rest of the countries of the World. This written paper aims to present aspects of development and trends of the Information Society in Romania.
