Geospatial processing techniques used to analyze forest dynamics in Romania
Paul TEODORESCU, Mădălina ZAMFIR
This paper is the first in a series that aims to highlight the potential of satellite data obtained by remote sensing in the massive geospatial data processing stage. With the help of advanced open source analytics tools, the issue of deforestation is targeted, i.e. the detection of forest changes at ground level. Six techniques for visualizing forest losses are presented here, using Hansen maps and a technique for quantifying forest losses found in Romania in the last twenty years, using two datasets: the Hansen dataset and the dataset provided by the Department of United States (USDOS).
Keywords:
geospatial Big Data, deforestation, satellite platforms.
