Automatic License / Number Plate Recognition – LPR / ANPR – based systems. Some aspects regarding the specific issues and solutions

Abstract:

Without having the vanity to fully cover the subject, the present paper aims to realize – at a general / introductory level – an overview of some of the main aspects related to the current issues and solutions in the field of Automatic License / Number Plate Recognition (LPR / ANPR) based systems. A brief history of the domain is presented; concepts, terms, methods and techniques, dependencies, specific conditions and constraints, and also ANPR systems evaluation possibilities, are defined, analyzed and synthesized. Also, some of the most known and recognized marketed products and their producers are reviewed, and the main types of ANPR based practical applications are enumerated, some legal aspects being also signaled. The paper ends with a few conclusions and a bibliographical references list.
