The Romanian residential sector is one of the most important sectors from the point of view of final energy and electricity consumption, coming second after industry within the total consumption at the country's level. Nevertheless, if we compare some of the specific indicators (electric energy consumption by inhabitant, electric energy consumption by dwelling place, electricity consumption by dwelling area) the values recorded will be lower in Romania than the average in the European Union. The inter-dependence between the amount of electricity necessary for the residential sector and the total final energy amount for the sector underlines the necessity to develop simultaneous forecasts. One of the models utilized in order to achieve this is MAED (Model for Analysis of Energy Demand). By examining the electricity necessary to cover the demand in the residential sector and considering different evolution scenarios, the following are worth mentioning: the share of the electricity consumption in the residential sector within the total final energy consumption of the sector increases in the course of time; the amount of electricity necessary for the residential sector follows the same evolution trend as final energy necessary in the sector, but at higher rates; the increase in the level of urbanization and comfort of the dwelling places require supplementary amounts of electricity for the residential sector; utilization of electricity for lighting, food freezing and conservation, clothes and dish washing, are both, at present and in the future, the most important ways electricity is utilized in the residential sector; nevertheless, their share seems to decrease in the course of time.
