Nowadays, more than ever before, men like to find and read information that would enrich their knowledge, that would make their life easier or just to have fun or to pleasantly spend their free time. And Internet is a large ocean of information, where one can find practically anything. There are over 600.000.000 internet users, with an average growth of one new user every 5 seconds. Globalization of the book industry will be hallucinatory, tumultuous, with many innovative maneuvers. But, still, the human factor rather than technology will make the difference in quality. Conceiving the book as a digital product will lead to a turning point in the editing/publishing industry. The electronic book will have its own development co-ordinates, so that no text will be unavailable. Probably this will put an end to the blind production that now leads, in the bookshops, to the quick exhaustion of the success titles and to the storage of those whose special public is distributed or hard to attract. The e-book stored somewhere in the network, will constitute an inexhaustible source of new copies. This paper proposes to present some general information regarding the CREFEN project, and several detailed elements connected to the development of the electronic book in the project, activity in which IPA had a significant contribution, alongside the project co­-coordinator, ICI.
