The role of the Metaverse in the military domain

Abstract:

This article explores the transformative impact of the Metaverse on military operations, focusing on how Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented reality (AR) technologies are revolutionizing training, communication and technological development within the defense sector. The Metaverse enables realistic simulations of combat scenarios and military operations in a risk-free virtual environment, enhancing decision-making capabilities and operational efficiency. It facilitates real-time communication and coordination among geographically dispersed personnel and offers detailed terrain and resource analysis for informed strategic planning. Additionally, the Metaverse serves as a testing ground for advanced military technologies, allowing pre-deployment adjustments. Case studies, such as VR pilot training and command system simulations, highlight its effectiveness in improving training outcomes and reducing costs.
