Abstract: In the past 20 years, software selection has become an area of active research due to its complex nature. Researchers have more focused on the selection of specific software and less on general models and methods to solve this problem. Software selection is a multi-criteria decision problem that relates to the selection of a software product from a variety of software products based on evaluations in software using a set of criteria. The most suitable methods that can be applied to the problem of selection software products are multi-attribute decision methods in which the set of alternatives is a finite, nonempty and the set of criteria and possibly sub-criteria, is clearly established, finite and measurable. The article provides a review of research on software selection problem and construct a general model of evaluation and selection based on multi-criteria approach.

Keywords: software, selection, evaluation, multi-criteria decision, multi-attribute methods, model.
