Abstract: The major changes produced in the domain of information and communication technologies in the last ten years have also influenced the libraries and enabled them to cross geographical and temporal barriers in order to respond to the ever-changing needs of their users. These transformations led not only to the replacement of the traditional support (the paper) but also to the evolution of the library concept itself. Since its launching, the Europeana Digital Library has had as a main objective the ensuring of the public access to the European cultural and scientific patrimony, in digital format.

Keywords: digital libraries, digital resources, Europeana.
