Abstract: The development of the technologies for ITC domain led to the emergence of paradigms that, in the last 20 years, have redesigned the way in which information is retrieved, stored and used. The increasement of the connection limits of the devices led to the possibility of achieving a free exchange of information between them, without the necessity of protocols or interfaces. In this way, the paradigm “Internet of Things” has appeared. Besides the possibilities to investigate the causes and effects of global problems, this paradigm can be extended to the domestic field. This paper presents the concept of a Smart Home taking into account existing innovative technologies and how they lead to substantial reductions in domestic energy consumption. It presents a series of theoretical aspects and the real possibility of integrating such solutions in the house. This is demonstrated at the end of the paper-based on vitrtual prototypes.
Keywords: Smart Home, Internet of Tthings, sensors, virtual prototypes.
